Schools across the nation, including North Carolina, were hit in the Canvas cyberattack that ground many schools to a halt.

This week's hack into information from almost 9,000 schools included personally identifying data. It was not the first big edtech breach.

A company called Instructure was hacked by a group called ShinyHunters Thursday. Instructure is behind the learning management system called Canvas, which thousands of students and teachers rely on. CBS News New York's Ali Bauman reports.

The hack of Canvas affected universities nationwide and in New Jersey, including Rutgers, Princeton, Montclair State University and others.
